(RICHMOND, IN) - The Wayne County Council will begin public hearings this week as they explore the feasibility of a local option highway user tax.
Commissioners voted in favor of the tax claiming the funds are needed to keep up the county road system.
The proposal will be put before the council later this month.
The proposal would collect $25 dollars per vehicle per year for cars, motorcycles, and trucks.
Semis, RVs, and other larger vehicles would pay $40 dollars a year.
