(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Eli Lilly announced plans to expand its biotechnology research during the Bio International Convention in Washington D.C. Lilly Vice President of Biotechnology Discovery Research Tom Bumol says Lilly is right now hiring up to 40 scientists with backgrounds in biochemistry, microbiology, and other high tech fields for research in Indianapolis and San Diego.
Bumol says the company is making some more investments in to make multi-specific agents; molecules that will combine more than one drug activity in a single molecule.
Bumol says Lilly has slowing been working toward this new platform steadily increasing investments over time.
Bumol says the ability for molecules to combine several drug activities in one will help researchers develop multi-layered drugs for illnesses that require a combination of drugs such as diabetes or cancer.
