(UNDATED) - INDOT is reaching out to the private sector for help with a public problem - interstate trash pick-up.
Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation are rolling out a pilot program for the region - Sponsor-A-Highway. This program lets companies contract with private service providers for litter and trash pick-up along the roadway.
INDOT doesn't receive any money from the program. Instead, the sponsors pay the contractor to do the clean-up in a given section of the highway.
Maginity says a few companies have already opted into the pilot program.
