(UNDATED) - A new program initiated by the National Restaurant Association is aiming to provide healthier meal options for kids in chain restaurants.
19 restaurants have agreed to take part in the kids live well program including Cracker Barrel, Denny's, Burker King and Outback Steakhouse.
Indiana Nutritionist Kim Galeaz says restaurants have to offer at least one kids' menu item that has 600 calories or less.
Galeaz adds those items are full meals which contain two or more servings of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, low or non-fat dairy with limited sodium, fat and sugars.
The restaurants must also offer at least one side item that's 200 calories or less.
The nutritional information must also be visible to patrons or made available upon request.
Galeaz says the initiative is a win-win situation for restaurants and customers because it gives more options for people looking for healthier alternatives and therefore more people will head to those restaurants.
