(TERRE HAUTE, IN) - Thousands of civilians and police from around the U.S. are expected at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute today for the funeral of Officer Brent Long.
Long was killed a week ago while assisting with servicing a warrant.
His K9 "Shadow" was wounded.
State Police Sergeant Joe Watts says THPD will be closed through Tuesday morning so the department can grieve.
They're getting the assist from a number of agencies, including state police, the Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Clay County Sheriff's Office, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State University Police, and the West Terre Haute Police Department.
Watts says the motorcade will make two stops in Terre Haute to salute Officer Long.
Services begin at 11 this morning.
Long is survived by a wife and two children.
"Shadow" is being rehabbed and then will return to the family.
Long was also a member of the swat team.
Burial will follow the services at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Terre Haute.
