(LAWRENCE, IN) - A top federal official says Indiana leads the way when it comes to solar energy.
General Services Administration Head Martha Johnson toured the roof of the Bean Federal Center in Lawrence Wednesday.
Officials say it's the largest rooftop solar panel installation in the Midwest.
Johnson says solar energy is a real, viable and soon-to-be booming industry that'll produce real jobs for Hoosiers and the rest of the nation.
The rooftop installation is equipped with some six-thousand panels installed this past spring.
Some of it's serving as a lab to determine what type of solar panels work best in the Indiana climate.
About two dozen administrators, scholars and energy experts joined Johnson for the tour and an industry panel discussion.
