(INDIANAPOLIS) - The new head of the Julian Center says domestic violence has grown worse in Indiana.
Melissa Pershing will officially take over as executive director after Labor Day. The Center announced the appointment Wednesday. Pershing replaces Ann Delaney who stepped down after holding the post for 15 years.
Pershing says from April to July of this year, the Center saw about 100 more calls compared to last year. She adds that the average shelter stay increased by five days from 29 to 34 days.
Pershing says with Indiana now ranking number two in the nation for teen dating abuse, the Center has much more work to do.
Pershing says during her time as executive director, she'll focus on partnering with other organizations committed to ending domestic violence.
Pershing comes to the Julian Center from the Damian Center where she served as director of the Damian Center and ALS of Indiana. Delaney will continue her work with Delaney & Delaney among other projects.
