(HAMMOND) - The state line energy plant in Hammond will close earlier than expected.
Dominion Resources Inc. Spokesman Dan Genest says company officials met with the 120 employees this week to inform them of the decision to close the plant in March 2011. Dominion Resources had first planned to close the old coal-fired plant near the end of 2012.
New federal environmental regulations that take effect January 1st will make it less cost-effective to run the plant.
The facility generates electricity for other utilities.
