(STATEHOUSE) - Hoosier 16-year-olds appear likely to keep the right to apply for a driver’s license.
A legislative study committee is pondering whether to raise the driving age to 17 for students who don't take driver's ed. But nearly half the committee's 12 members say they want evidence of a significant driver's ed advantage before changing anything.
Current law lets teenagers get their license at 16 and three months with driver's ed, or 16-and-a-half without.
The three-month difference is tied with South Dakota for the shortest in the nation.
