(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Is the rollercoaster ride on Wall Street affecting consumer confidence among Hoosiers?
Butler University College of Business Director Bill O'Donnell says it's an inter-connected, vicious cycle that's difficult to unravel.
O'Donnell is an expert on retail sales. He blames the retail slump on general uncertainty about the economy among consumers, retailers and government analysts.
O'Donnell says this uncertainly will likely impact big name discount retailers who may feel the pinch from consumers spending less despite good deals.
Ironically, O'Donnell says many companies that trade on the New York Stock Exchange are doing very well. However, he says uncertainty about governments around the world is fueling fear.
