(INDIANAPOLIS) - Purdue graduate Herman Cain rallied up a crowd of potential Republican supporters in Indianapolis Monday.
Cain is pledging to walk away with the 2012 Republican nomination for president.
Cain told hundreds of folks gathered at the Columbia Club that America is in crises. He says President Barack Obama and Democrats are spending the nation into deeper crises and Washington needs a common sense approach to solving problems.
Cain finished fifth in Saturday's Iowa straw poll behind Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney among others who dominated. Despite that, Cain says he has finished in the top three of some polls that haven't gotten media coverage. He also says his fifth place showing is remarkable considering he spent no money on media advertising.
Cain says despite negative reports, he plans on remaining in the race for the nomination through next June. Cain is a former chief executive officer of Godfather's Pizza who became an Atlanta-based talk radio host. He grew up in the segregated south and has gotten strong Tea Party support in part for his criticism of Obama.
Cain, a colon cancer survivor, told the crowd that America needs a new economic growth plan, fair tax code, enforcement of immigration laws and restructuring of entitlement programs. He says politicians within the Washington beltway are out of touch with the priorities of Hoosiers and Americans in general.
