(INDIANAPOLIS) - A new leukemia treatment that attempts to turn cells into “assassins” is in the works.
Dr. Sumeet Bhatia, an oncologist with Community Health Network in Indianapolis, says the treatment turns t-cells in the body into assassin cells which target leukemia cells and helps destroy them.
The treatment has worked for three patients, two of which were cancer-free after a year of treatment.
Dr. Bhatia says the treatment has been tried with other cancers as well. He says there won't be any kind of "across the board" treatment for all cancers because there are simply too many types of cancers to treat them all.
