Last updated on Monday, August 1, 2011

(UNDATED) - A new report, “The State of the Young Hoosier Child,” highlights several factors that are crucial for early childhood success.

One those include the importance of preschool, which can play an important long-term role in boosting school readiness and social development.

The report also says kids will face obstacles to learning without strong family support.

The State Health Department reports that 25% of Hoosier children ages 0-5 live in households with multiple risk factors including being led by a single parent, living in poverty and being led by a parent with less than a high school education.

The report also details many other factors impacting early childhood such as vaccinations and immunizations, abuse and neglect.
