(INDIANAPOLIS) - The job outlook in Indiana may be sluggish in some career fields, but officials at IUPUI’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs say the public safety sector continues to seek out young talent.
The university held its 5th annual Public Safety Career Day Monday. Hundreds of students interested in public safety careers turned out for the event.
Various public safety agencies were also present including: Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Decatur Township Fire Department and the Indiana National Guard among others.
SPEA says a healthy 32 percent of its graduates have secured jobs in the public sector in the past five years. Officials say many of them have gone into public safety and they expect this trend to continue.
They point to three federal agencies they say will do significant hiring through 2012. Those agencies include: the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense.
