Steele Suggests New Missing Children Legislation

Last updated on Friday, August 19, 2011

(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana legislators are reviewing the Casey Anthony murder case to see if Indiana needs a new law for missing-children cases.

Bedford Senator Brent Steele says he was flooded with outraged emails after a Florida jury acquitted Anthony of murdering her daughter Caylee. He says several of those emails questioned why Indiana doesn't require parents to promptly report their children missing.

Anthony failed to report Caylee missing for a full month. Steele suggests Indiana could set a three-hour requirement, or different time limits depending on the child's age.
