Carpooling Program In Franklin Is Working

Last updated on Monday, September 19, 2011

(FRANKLIN) - Franklin Township schools is working with Central Indiana Commuter Systems to on a pilot “School Pool” program to match families for carpooling to school.

Franklin Township discontinued free bus transportation to and from school due to a budget deficit and failed referendum.

A pay to ride bus system is in place but many parents have chosen not to participate. Brook Wessel-Burke is principal at Bunker Hill Elementary.

Like most schools in the district they have creative strategies for routing parents into the parking lots for student drop off and pick up.

Burke says after making some adjustments after the first few days of school things are running rather smoothly and that parents have been cooperative.
