(INDIANAPOLIS) - People treating their homes for bed bugs may be doing more harm to themselves.
The centers for disease control and prevention say there have been 111 illnesses from bed bug-related insecticides from 2003-2010.
Those cases were confined to seven states with one death reported in North Carolina. Indianapolis Dr. Christopher Doehring says people tend to overuse over-the-counter bed bug treatments.
Dr. Doehring says when dealing with bed bugs or any pests, it's best to seek the help of a professional.
