Investigation Continues On Pan Am Plaza Parking Garage

Last updated on Friday, September 16, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The director of the Indianapolis Department of Code Enforcement says work is being done to evaluate the situation regarding the underground parking garage at Pan Am Plaza.

The plaza was closed after engineers discovered structural issues within the parking garage that pose a danger to safety.

Department of Code Enforcement Director Rick Powers says the issue is with the structural supports of the roof of the garage, which is essentially the plaza itself, including beams and the support and fasteners that connect the beams to the columns.

Powers says he hopes to have an engineering analysis of the entire garage within a couple of weeks. In the meantime, the garage is working at about 90 percent capacity. He says around 100 parking spaces are unavailable because of the affected portions of the garage.
