(GARY) - Nipsco is asking for the public’s help in stopping thieves who are climbing utility poles and cutting electrified copper wires in a near-downtown Gary neighborhood.
There have been 14 separate incidents since Sunday. The thieves made off with 23-hundred feet of wire weighing about 600 pounds.
Nipsco spokesman Nick Meyer says this is not only a danger to the thieves but it's causing neighborhood outages.
