(UNDATED) - Apple’s latest iPhone will be in stores this morning. And a third wireless carrier is now involved. That will mean more choices for consumers at Apple begins selling its iPhone 4S.
The latest version will now be available to Sprint network customers as well as Verizon and AT&T when it goes on sale at 8 a.m.
The iPhone 4S will have a number of new features including an improved 8-megapixel camera and faster load time.
It will also respond to voice commands as AT&T Director of Sales Rob South explains. "You can ask it, 'will I need an umbrella today?' and it will tell you if you need an umbrella in Louisville," says South. "It has this new voice-activated service, it is almost like artificial intelligence where you can just ask it normal everyday questions and it will respond."
The new iPhone will range in price from $199 for a 16-gigabyte version to $399 for 64 gigabytes.
While it's the first launch of an iPhone for Sprint, it is the fifth launch for AT&T. "Only the AT&T phone will work twice as fast on our 4G network and allow you to both talk and surf at the same time," says South.
But of course it will be up to individual consumers to decide which carrier suits their needs. AT&T says it has set record levels for pre-orders so a big turnout is expected at stores this morning.
