(PIKE CO, IL)(NBC) - A 14-year-old Pike County, Illinois boy says a lion attacked him.
Jeremiah Dice says, "It's ears were back and all it's teeth were showing. I could see the fangs on each side. It was one of the scariest things I've ever seen."
Dice, 14, says he's lucky to be alive after a mountain lion the size of a Great Dane attacked him on Saturday night.
Dice was on his deer stand near Baylis, Illinois when he says he first spotted the mountain lion.
"I thought I heard it run off so I waited a couple of minutes. I got down and as I unhooked my bow and walked back to the house it jumped on my back."
He says he struggled with the animal as it clawed at him, shredding his jacket and ripping up his hat.
"I had ahold of it's neck and I had my hand over my face and I could smell his breath and his slobber was coming on my face."
Dice says he slashed at the mountain lion with his hunting knife and it ran off.
Now the Department of Natural Resources is investigating. The conservation police collected Dice's clothes and the knife he used for DNA analysis to confirm exactly what the animal is.
