(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man was arrested Monday night in the severe beating of his 8-year-old son that stemmed from the boy’s behavior in school, Indianapolis police said.
Officers were called to a home in the 3400 block of Keystone Avenue just before 9 p.m. after the boy's grandmother called police.
Earnest Holly, 25, of Indianapolis, was arrested on a battery charge after he admitted beating the boy, according to a police report. Officers said that the boy was lying in a fetal position and that his body was trembling when they arrived.
"(The boy's) upper body was literally covered with welts, bruises and swelling," officers said in their report. "Skin had been removed in places on his legs where he had been struck with his father's belt. (The boy) had a large bump on his forehead, where he said his father hit him with his fist."
The boy told police that he was beaten repeatedly with the belt before his father began slamming him into the walls and onto the floor.
"I'm tired of the same {expletive} at school, and I lost it," police said Holly told them. "It's just bruises. They will go away in three, four days."
The boy was taken to Methodist Hospital and was later taken to Riley Hospital for Children so his head injury could be treated, police said.
