(HOWARD COUNTY). - Two Howard County couples face charges of child selling after they traded an infant for cash, drugs and a car, police say.
Police began investigating in May, shortly after Brandon and Ann Riggs and Stephen and Melissa Lynch tried to file a petition for adoption through Howard County Circuit Court, Their request was denied.
Investigators say that in October 2009, the Riggs agreed to give their then-4-month-old child to the Lynches in exchange for $13,000 cash, controlled substances and a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII valued at about $3,500.
Warrants were issued Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit dealing in a narcotic drug, conspiracy to commit child selling and profiting from an adoption.
31-year-old Stephen Lynch, was arrested Thursday. Brandon Riggs was already incarcerated in the Cass County Jail on unrelated charges.
Melissa Lynch and Anna Riggs had not been arrested as of Friday evening.
