(ACWORTH, Ga.) - Divers have been searching for a 68-year-old man in a wheelchair who fell into a Georgia lake while getting off a large boat, authorities said.
Tommy Moore of Plainfield, Ind., was at the lake to attend a family reunion when he fell in.
Rescue crews have been searching for Moore in Lake Allatoona in Red top Mountain State Park, since Saturday.
Moore was getting off a large boat to return to a dock, and the boat separated from the dock, said Sgt. Mike Barr of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
There were about 20 people on the boat, and two of them jumped in immediately but weren't able to find Moore.
Witnesses said they could see bubbles coming from where Moore went into the water because he had an oxygen tank with him. Moore was not wearing a life jacket.
Dive teams attempted several dives on Saturday and recovered Moore's wheelchair.
On Sunday, divers returned to the lake, assisted by sonar equipment, and continued their efforts into the evening. Rescue efforts resumed Monday, with the addition of roving cameras. Deep water of about 60 to 75 feet has complicated the search.
Construction debris in the area and the position of the dock is also hindering searchers.
