(TERRE HAUTE) - The Terre Haute Police Department’s furry officers got some extra protection today.
The K-9 unit received new bullet and stab proof vests.
They were donated from the "Vest in Police Dog Protection" organization. Each vest weighs around 7 lbs and is custom fit to the dog.
The decision to get the new vests was sparked by Henry County K-9 handler Derek Hall, after the death of Terre Haute officer Brent Long.
The Terre Haute Police Department hopes to purchase two additional dogs by the end of the year.
