(FRANKLIN COUNTY)(WISH) - Troy Hancock, of Greenfield, was arrested after using an illegal weapon to shot a deer over the weekend.
Indiana Conservation Officers charged Hancock with hunting on property without permission, failure to have a valid deer hunting license and hunting with an illegal device.
Police were called to investigate after two archery hunters heard gunshots.
Hancock admitted he shot and killed a female deer with a Winchester rifle in order to put meat in his freezer and feed his family.
Deer season opened October 1 to archery hunters, but firearm season does not begin until Nov. 12.
Police say even if firearm season was in the rifle Hancock used was still illegal.
