(TERRE HAUTE) - Sugar Creek Consolidated Elementary School in West Terre Haute went on lockdown Tuesday morning as a precaution.
A man in a house across the street from the school was threatening to commit suicide.
Police talked to him for several hours.
They eventually got him to come out safely and let them take him to Hamilton Center for a mental health evaluation. He was despondent over a relationship issue.
Police say at no time was anyone at the school or in the neighborhood in danger. The man was only threatening to harm himself.
Some parents and grandparents went to the school to find out more about the situation.
School administrators explained to them and to the students what was happening.
After the incident was over parents received a phone call and a note went home with students explaining the situation.
No charges will be filed against the man.
