(UNDATED) - The United Nations is predicting the world population will hit seven billion next week.
The UN says the world’s seven billionth baby will be born on October 31st.
The UN says the world's seven billionth baby will be born on October 31st. But instead of worrying about the sheer numbers, UN leaders say the world needs to think about how to make the planet a better place to live.
"We should invest in health and education of the world's 1.8 billion young people, and make them entrepreneurs who force us to sustainable development. This will yield enormous returns in economic growth for generations to come," said Babatunde Osotimehin, UN Population Fund.
To some demographers, the seven billion mark foreshadows tough times ahead as nations struggle with issues ranging from rapid urbanization to skyrocketing demand for resources like clean water, fuel and food, as well as healthcare and jobs.
