(UNDATED) - State wildlife officials have launched a website intended to give deer hunters with more venison than they can use a chance to share it with people interested in adding the deer meat to their menu.
The Department of Natural Resources says state law makes it illegal to sell, trade or barter wild game in the state. But the DNR's GiveINGame website launched Thursday allows hunters to share extra venison they might have in their freezer with anyone interested in accepting it.
DNR Fish & Wildlife director Mark Reiter says the website is a supplement to programs that funnel venison to needy Indiana families through food banks and charitable groups.
