(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man from Georgia was arrested at Indianapolis International Airport on Thursday after a gun was found in his carry-on bag, police said.
Jonathan Schooler, 40, was passing through a security checkpoint at about 10:30 a.m. when the gun was spotted by a Transportation Safety Administration official, according to the police report.
When he was questioned, police said Schooler told them he had packed the bag himself, but said the gun must have been put in the bag by someone else.
He did not have a license to carry the gun, police said.
Schooler was arrested on preliminary charges of carrying a handgun without a license and undisclosed transport of a dangerous device.
Unloaded guns can be transported in checked baggage, as long as they are declared to the airline and stored in a proper carrying case, but they are prohibited in carry-on bags.
