(MICHIGAN CITY). (AP) - Officials say a man serving a 220-year sentence for a Hammond apartment fire that killed his wife, infant daughter and a neighbor was found dead inside his prison cell.
Indiana State Prison officials announced Tuesday that guards found 37-year-old Steven Allen dead on Saturday during a routine check at the Michigan City facility. The Times of Munster reports (http://bit.ly/t0ppTz ) that prison officials say CPR was performed, but Allen couldn't be revived.
Allen's death remains under investigation, although officials say foul play isn't suspected.
Allen was convicted in 2009 of murder and arson for the July 2005 fire that gutted the building where about 50 people lived. His earliest possible release date was in 2116.
