(UNDATED) - More and more people are living past the age of 100. The U.S. Census Bureau says the number of people living to see their 100th birthday will swell as baby boomers get older.
What you may find surprising is that many of those approaching that century mark are far from frail. Instead, there are a lot independent older individuals in this country.
Experts say the combination of good genes, a good diet and exercise will help you to see your 100th birthday.
If your parents, grandparents or siblings lived long lives researchers say your chances of reaching a 100 go up, but good genes is only a third of the equation.
The other two-thirds is lifestyle choices including diet and exercise.
Experts say by maintaining a healthy weight and exercising you help keep away the biggest contributors to death in this country, heart attacks, diabetes and cancer.
The most important thing is to stop smoking. Those that have good social connections and a hobby tend to live longer. The best advise is to enjoy life, avoid stress and have a lot of healthy relationships, good friends and avoid negative relationships.
