(SELLERSBURG) - A mother accused of having sex with her teenage daughter’s ex-boyfriend has her day in court. Authorities say her husband is the one who caught them in the act.
32-year-old Katherine Cervantes is charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Sellersburg Police say a couple of weeks ago at her home on Washington Drive, she had sex with her daughter's 14-year-old ex-boyfriend.
Police say they got a report from Clark County Child Protective Services to investigate, and when they went to the home to interview her, she admitted to the incident on Monday.
Police say her children had some friends over for a get-together and sleepover with teenage boys and girls. Authorities say her husband was asleep when the incident happened, and that the husband woke up and caught them having sex.
Police say she and the male victim were drinking alcohol that was at the house, and that she gave him hard liquor. She has a 12-year-old daughter and 14-year-old daughter.
Police say there is no information on any other victims, and that this a one-time incident. The 14-year-old also admitted the sex, according to police.
When Cervantes was arrested, police say she was crying hysterically, and repeating that she needed Jesus in her life. She is now in the Clark County Jail. Her bond is set at $30,000.
Sexual misconduct is a felony. If convicted, Cervantes could face 16-20 years behind bars. The average sentence is ten years.
