(COLUMBUS) - Police have identified the man and woman seriously injured in a crash Monday on Interstate 65 near the Taylorsville exit.
19-year-old Daisy Esparza, and 18- year-old Oscar Martinez, both of Seymour, were both in critical condition this morning at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, according to Indiana State Police.
According to police, Esparza was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid southbound on I-65 as a 2012 Chevrolet van driven by 25-year-old Dutch D. Chapman, of Richmond, Ky, merged into the right southbound lanes from U.S. 31.
Esparza's car struck the driver's door of the van, causing the car to careen back across the southbound lanes through the median into the northbound lanes.
A northbound semitrailer 29-year-old Janik Tibor, of Darien, Ill., struck the car in the northbound lanes, and both the semi and car came to a stop in the median. Chapman and Tibor were not injured. State police continue to investigate the crash.
