(HAMMOND) - Police are investigating the shooting death of a 10-year-old Hammond boy found in bed next to his wounded father.
An adult female resident arrived home about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, found the and his father lying in bed, and called police, believing both were dead.
Police have not identified the father
Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller says the 32-year-old father has a gunshot wound to his chest and is in critical condition in an Illinois hospital.
Miller says officers recovered a handgun used in the shootings. He says there were no other children in the house, and no forced entry.
