(SEYMOUR) - 33-year-old Kristy Otto, of Seymour, was arrested Sunday on charges of attempted welfare fraud.
She was arrested after she provided false and misleading information to receive propane to heat a residence through the Energy Assistance Program.
Police say a second person may also be charged. According to police Otto and a second person, had reported their tank was empty, but during the investigation police found Otto and the other person were planning to move.
Her lease agreement, says the propane tank must contain the same amount of propane that it held when she and the second person moved into the residence.
Police believe Otto and the second person were trying to avoid having to pay for fuel before moving out of the home. Otto was taken to the Jackson County Jail and then released after posting a $1,005 bond.
