(TERRE HAUTE) - The Terre Haute couple accused of taking a child across several states now face a federal charge.
24-year-old Nicholas Runyon and 28-year-old April Bell, were indicted Thursday for kidnapping.
If convicted, they face a quarter of a million dollar fine and life in federal prison. The U.S. Attorney says Runyon and Bell took a 4-year-old boy four states (Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky) in July.
The missing child report led to a 72-hour cross-country search before the pair was finally arrested in Kentucky.
The pair left letters for family and friends, saying they were leaving with a child, and would not come back to Indiana.
US Attorney Joseph Hogsett says the child was unharmed and he credit's the hardwork and collaboration of several law enforcement agencies for the safe return of the child.
Runyon and Bell also have a confinement charge pending in Vigo County. They're both being held at a federal facility in Henderson, Kentucky. The federal trial is set for January.
