(COLUMBUS) - Leaving a not at the scene of a burglary rearly throws police off the trail.
Columbus police found a handwritten note Sunday at the Tropical Smoothie Café on 15th Street. The note suggested the business should keep its doors locked to avoid being burglarized.
Clayten Lee Asher, 24, of Columbus was arrested after police reviewed security video. Police said Asher used keys he took from his girlfriend, an employee at the café, to enter the building.
He is accused of stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the cafe's safe around 1 a.m. Sunday. Columbus Police Lt. Joe Richardson said Asher confessed to the burglary.
Police believe Asher is also involved in two other incidents at Tropical Smoothie.
Police arrested Asher after they found him in a vehicle at a west-Columbus motel.
He was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of burglary.
