(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis police officer is recovering after a shootout with a suspect Monday afternoon.
Police say Officer Dwayne "Dewey" Runnels was attempting a traffic stop inside an apartment complex when the driver of the vehicle stepped out and began firing at Officer Runnels. Runnels returned fire, killing the suspect but not before being shot himself.
Two other people were inside the car during the shooting. Police took them in for questioning but said they are not suspects, just witnesses.
