(INDIANAPOLIS)(AP) - Police say they will work with social service agencies to get downtown Indianapolis’ homeless population off the streets during Super Bowl activities.
Police have targeted an unofficial homeless camp near the City-County Building, several blocks from Lucas Oil Stadium. WRTV reports the camp has become a focus for complaints and an eyesore for tourists.
Deputy Police Chief Mike Bates says forced relocations aren't being planned, but authorities will try to get homeless people into shelters. Bates also says officers will be enforcing panhandling laws as the Feb. 5 game draws closer.
WTHR-TV reports some shelters plan to offer special activities during Super Bowl weekend, including visits from athletes and game-watching parties.
