(COLUMBUS) - Columbus Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam in which individuals receive a recorded message, supposedly from Indiana Bank and Trust, requesting their credit card number, pin number and expiration date.
Columbus Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam in which individuals have received a recorded message, supposedly from Indiana Bank and Trust, requesting their credit card number, pin number and expiration date.
Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the police department, said more than 150 individuals reported receiving the message this afternoon; three had given out personal information. Some, but not all, of the message recipients are IBT customers, he said.
Myers said people should never give out personal financial information without making a separate call to their bank or credit card company to verify the situation.
Because of the volume of calls CPD has received regarding this scam, only individuals who believe they have given out personal information as part of a phone scam should call the department, 376-2600, and then follow up as soon as possible with their credit card company or bank.
