(TERRE HAUTE)(WTHI) - The price for Powerball tickets might go up, forcing gamers to spend more cash for the chance to hit it big.
Powerball ticket prices are set to double in price to $2.00 come January 15th.
Lottery organizers hope the change will get more people to join in on the fun since odds of winning and jackpots are both set to go up.
The move is a strategy to separate the game from Mega Millions, another big money lottery game that only costs a dollar a ticket.
Officials think players will like the change but some people say the cost could keep them from playing altogether.
The starting jackpot will rise from $20 to $40 million.
The amount won for matching all five numbers but not the Power Ball will increase from $200,000 to $1 million.
