(L.A. CALIFORNIA) - Relatives of Whitney Houston have reportedly been told by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office that the singer died from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs, mixed with alcohol.
The 48-year-old singer was found unresponsive in the bathroom of a Beverly Hills' hotel suite.
Officials said drowning is a possible cause of death that is being investigated. However, according to TMZ, family sources said the coroner said there was not enough water in Houston's lungs to conclude she drowned.
Family sources told TMZ that Houston was discovered by her aunt. The singer was reportedly found submerged in water, but her relatives were told she may have died before she went under water.
TMZ reported that family member said Houston was taking Xanax, which is often used to treat anxiety. When combined with alcohol, Xanax can cause drowsiness.
