(EVANSVILLE)(WFIE) - Three Evansville children are in state custody after police say one of them, a four-month old, was beaten in the face.
Jason Owsley, 22, is charged with battery on a child under 14, and neglect of a dependent. Officers say the infant had bruises, cuts, and two black eyes.
Family members say the 4-month-old boy is spending his second night at St. Marys, recovering from what investigators are calling blunt force trauma.
Sasha Stinson, the boy's mom, says she thought Owsley was a friend, letting him take care of her three children while she picked up her tax return. She was gone 45-minutes.
"He sent the other two children upstairs because the 2-year-old can talk good. I guess as they were upstairs, he was down here doing that to the baby," said the boy's grandmother, Raelene Stinson.
Doctors say the baby appears to have been beaten, with bruises, cuts, a swollen face, and two black eyes.
Jason Owsley was arrested in the emergency room.
"When the detectives were interviewing him and confronted him about some inconsistencies in his story, he said he just wanted to go home, and he quit talking at that point. He said he just wanted to go to jail," said Sgt. Cullum with the EPD.
Owsley is expected in court this week. He is still in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
