(HIGHLAND) - State police say a man tried to grab a northwestern Indiana police officer’s gun during a domestic disturbance call, then grabbed a police baton and struck two officers with it before an officer fatally shot him.
State police say 27-year-old Joshua Jones of Highland was pronounced dead at Community Hospital in Munster. State police said an autopsy showed Joes died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Highland police responding to the apartment about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday say Jones became agitated when he saw his mother and began fighting with police. The officer shot Jones after a stun gun failed twice to subdue him and Jones began hitting the second officer with the baton.
One officer was treated for head injuries.
Both officers were placed on paid administrative leave.
