(BUTLER UNIVERSITY) - A new Butler University mascot will make his debut at the Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball game on Saturday.
Butler Blue III, also known as Trip, will be presented at the game in Hinkle Fieldhouse at 2 p.m. The puppy will be joined by his big brother, Blue II, and the original Butler mascot, Butler Blue. Butler officials said Butler Blue is retired and currently lives in Illinois with his owner.
The bulldog puppy was born on December 23, 2011. He comes from the same breeders that gave Butler Blue II approximately eight years ago.
Butler officials said Blue II is still in great health and will continue to be a member of the Butler community. They said he will train Trip until the puppy takes over.
"Having Trip on hand now means he will learn from the best and be fully prepared for the day when he officially takes the reins as Butler's 'Top Dawg,'" said Butler officials in a news release.
The Butler campus will have the chance to meet the new addition to the team on Tuesday, February 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the campus Starbucks. Additionally, there will be a "Puppy Shower" open to the community at City Dogs Grocery's College Avenue on Saturday, February 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
