(LAWRENCE) - Police are investigating the shooting deaths of two men whose bodies were found at a home early Sunday morning near Geist Reservoir.
Indianapolis police were called to a home in the 10000 block of Courageous Drive, near 79th Street and Fall Creek Road, about 3 a.m.
Officers found the body of Derek Tully, 50, of Indianapolis, inside the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators then found the body of a second man, John Caffrey, 48, of Indianapolis, outside the home. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Both men suffered single gunshot wounds, said Kendale Adams, Indianapolis police public information officer.
"Investigators believe that the two victims have been mutual friends for a long period of time, and they may have been involved in an ongoing dispute," Adams said. "Investigators preliminarily believe that John Caffrey entered the house of Derek Tully and shot him. Tully was shot in front of his wife, but detectives are not releasing the details of the dispute at this time. After exiting the residence, Caffrey is believed to have shot himself in the head."
Detectives found the gun they believe was used in the shootings.
Residents in the neighborhood were stunned after hearing about the incident.
"I'm shocked. It's a very quiet neighborhood," neighbor Bruce Silk said.
"To hear it happened so close, really hits home. It's an unfortunate," neighbor Brent Holverson said. "Everyone has their differences, but there are different ways of handling it."
Investigators talked with witnesses in an effort to ascertain what led to the shootings.
