(West Lafayette) - One Purdue basketball player was kicked off the team Friday, and another was suspended for Sunday’s game against Michigan State.
West Lafayette Police arrested D.J. Byrd for public intoxication about 3:30 a.m. Friday. The details of exactly what happened haven't been released yet.
Byrd is a starting guard on the men's team. He has averaged eight points per game this season. Byrd will not play Sunday.
Head coach Matt Painter also announced that guard Kelsey Barlow has been dismissed from the program. He was suspended from the team prior to last year's NCAA tournament but was re-instated this year.
Barlow was not arrested but his involvement in the incident with Byrd is a violation of team rules.
