(STATEHOUSE) - State Sen. Brent Steele (R-Bedford) welcomed Kaleb Figg of Bedford Middle School as a Senate page in January.
During the 2012 session of the Indiana General Assembly, students throughout the state are invited to participate in the page program, making the Statehouse their classroom for the day. This experience includes a tour of the Capitol and an opportunity to be on the floor of the Senate chamber, where pages can meet, have their picture taken and deliver messages to their senators.
"Indiana's legislative process is best understood through observation and participation," Steele said. "Through this valuable program, students interact firsthand with legislators and meet other students from across Indiana."
Students in grades six through 12 are invited to serve as pages on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout session, Steele said.
