(JEFFERSONVILLE) - Amazon.com, Inc. announced plans today to open a new center in Southern Indiana, creating more than 1,000 new jobs.
The new facility will be located in Jeffersonville and will create approximately 1,050 new jobs by 2015 and bring around $150 million in investment in the state.
The building will be Amazon's fifth fulfillment center in Indiana. Other centers are located in Indianapolis, Whitestown and Plainfield.
Amazon expects to open the Jeffersonville facility this fall.
"I think I'm voicing the thoughts and opinions of many Hoosiers when I say I'm thankful for Amazon's decision to expand in Southern Indiana," said Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville). "Jeffersonville and surrounding communities have much to offer a corporation like Amazon, including hard workers and a hospitable atmosphere. On that same note, though, we look forward to seeing more of what Amazon has to offer Southern Hoosiers in terms of jobs and investments. I know Amazon has been a good corporate citizen in Indiana, creating many opportunities for Hoosiers in the past, and I look forward to the meaningful work the company is bringing to Indiana now."
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered the Seattle-based company up to $2 million in conditional tax credits and up to $300,000 in training grants because the company will create jobs.
